Medieval village: Castiglione della Pescaia
Castiglione della Pescaia is a lovely middle age town facing on the mediterranean sea near Grosseto and it is one of the recommended places to visit in Maremma. The ancient part of the village is “climbed” uphill defend by tall walls that protect the old houses crossed by “up and down” alleys: On top of the hill stands out the castle, better visible from the beach since faces south west. These alleys are simple but they are worth a visit, and from the main square “Sciolti” you can have a breathtaking view on the sea and valley. The Diaccia Botrona park and the Red House Ximenes, are well visible from here. This park is the last witness of the past era when this land was all swamp. At Info Point in Piazza Garibaldi you can find out about organized tours, things to see in the surroundings and tourist itineraries in the Tuscan Maremma. If you are saler and yachting funs you will love to walk by the touristic harbour watching the moored boats. Heading towards the sea you will find fresh fish counters first and then the organised beaches. There are plenty and you will have just to chose one. Free beaches in town are just little areas among the organised ones for more space you will have to go at the end of the town. For the water sport lovers such wind surf and kite surf we suggest to go south side of town heading towards Marina di Grosseto. Here you can find for rent or for taking a lesson or just some other people to share your passion with. Castiglione della Pescaia is also the most important nightlife center in the area. Many restaurants but also bars with music and great cocktails.
